Food is one of life's pleasures. Food is
important for fueling your body in your overall health. However, as an active person,
juggling between eating on the go and nutritious meals can be mystifying.
There are six basic nutrients for health,
namely;
- Water which is an essential substance
that makes up about 60 to 75 percent of your weight,
- Carbohydrates are a source of calories
from sugars and starches that fuel your muscles and brain,
- Fat is a source of stored energy (calories) that is
burned mostly during low-level activity (e.g. reading and sleeping) and long-term activity
(e.g. running and biking),
- Protein is essential for building and
repairing muscles, red blood cells, hair and other tissues, and for synthesizing hormones,
- Vitamins are metabolic catalysts that
regulate chemical reactions within the body and
- Minerals which are elements that combine
in many ways to form structures of the body (e.g. calcium in bones) and regulate body
processes (e.g. iron in red blood cells transports oxygen).
Under-nutrition and nutritional
deficiencies are the underlying cause of the vast majority of disease states in the human
body. It has been found that most people's nutritional reserves have become depleted in
some way. By supporting the body with the nutritional building blocks it is lacking, it
can heal itself, in most instances. One of the first things many nutritional patients
report, after taking targeted nutritional formulas, is increased energy.
It is not always easy, but rebuilding,
repairing and regenerating your body can be done, but, it takes time. A few factors play a
role in the rebuilding, repairing and regenerating of your body. First, is the amount of
time a person has been nutrient deficient and in a degenerating state, and second, their
willingness to make changes in their diet, nutritional supplementation, and lifestyle
(exercise, habits addictions), daily exercise and sleep needs, pure water intake, and
mental-emotional well being.
Take the time to learn how your body
works, the basic principles of nutrition and what nutrients your body requires for your
individual lifestyle, occupation, and dietary needs. Most dietary supplements are simply
concentrated foods or specific plants that have a long history of balancing certain
conditions in humans. You can improve the state of your health, prevent disease in the
future, and maintain your health in the way nature intended.
